Sunflower Meadow
The kids insisted this one should be named 'Sunflower Meadow'. This is a limited edition five-color reduction linocut, edition size is 11. Because of the printing technique involved, this one is not an open edition like my black and white prints.

This one is printed like all of my other black and white linocuts, except the same block is reprinted five times, each time carving the block away a litle more to reveal some color and overprint the rest with a new color. It's a fun process, watching the image emerge one color at a time over several days of printing, but very tedious.

So, first the block was printed with all yellow. Then, I carved out the yellow petals and printed over the rest with green, leaving yellow petals on a green background. Next, I carved out the stems and leaves, and part of the heads, and printed over everything with red - resulting in green and yellow flowers on a red background. Next came blue - I carved out the sunflower heads to keep them red, and printed over the rest of the background with the blue sky. Black is last; I carved away everything except a little bit of outline and printed the outline in black.
